Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods is unarguably one of the best television series in the crime drama genre. Aired on CBS, the series tells the life story of the police commissioner of New York named Frank Reagan, who has more than just problems at work and home to deal with as one of his children heads to the police force while the other is intrigued by the lawyers.
However, after thirteen successful seasons sparsed with 20 episodes each on average and one season ongoing, it seems like the Reagan family’s police procedural crime series will soon be ending its run. This follows reports that CBS has not listed the Selleck-led show’s name in the list of the 3 television series to be renewed this year, in 2024.
Tom Selleck’s Blue Bloods reportedly ending its run in 2024
For one that started almost a decade and a half ago in 2010, Blue Bloods will reportedly be ending its run after fourteen seasons. This comes after Amy Reisenbach, the president of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, the president of the network’s Studios, announced it in a joint statement.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the duo claimed that the series that “ruled Friday nights with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and established itself as a pillar of our winning lineup” will “forever be a beloved part of CBS’ legacy,” before adding:
“We’ll be forever grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for developing this signature series and to the amazing cast led by Tom Selleck, who America embraced as family and watched as welcomed guests at the Reagan dinner table.”
Continuing, the joint statement further thanked the masterminds who brought this excellent piece of work to life, all the while revealing that this year’s season would be the “final chapter” of the saga.
“We also sincerely thank the incredible writing and producing teams guided by executive producer Kevin Wade, for years of compelling episodes as they conceive this final chapter that we expect to be the most satisfying season yet for our loyal viewers.”
The series, which was notably the No. 1 primetime program and No. 3 broadcast drama for Fridays with 9.54 million viewers throughout the 2022-23 season (as per Entertainment Weekly), will have its final season — season 14 — released in two installments.
While the first ten episodes started airing earlier this year from February 16, 2024. With each episode hitting the screens every Friday, the remaining eight will be released in the fall of this year in the same manner. Viewers can stream it live on Paramount+.
Moreover, the core cast of the Reagans has returned to the series for the final season, including Tom Selleck as Frank Reagan, Will Estes as Jamie Reagan, Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, Andrew Terraciano as Sean Regan, and Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan-Boyle.
Which are the 3 shows to be renewed by CBS in 2024?
While Blue Bloods couldn’t get the pass to continue being one of the leaders in the crime drama genre for some more years, some other shows have managed to pull through. As reported by Just Jared, this includes three shows that will be renewed this year.
First off, The Drew Barrymore Show will continue throughout the 2024-2025 season with new episodes. Tailing it is The Young and The Restless, which has reportedly earned four more years of lifespan as it would continue until the 2027-28 season.
Lastly, Tracker has also recently returned to the television screens as of the 4th of March 2024, to continue its story with its second season.
Meanwhile, three other shows have also been axed by the network, including Young Sheldon, S.W.A.T., and Bob Hearts Abishola — all of which would reportedly be ending their respective runs by the end of 2024.
