A former Daytime Emmy nominee got a big shoutout at the Academy Awards.
Briana Nicole Henry, formerly Jordan on General Hospital, received a nice shoutout from her husband at this year’s Oscars. Kris Bowers, Henry’s spouse, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film, The Last Repair Shop. The film tells the story of four unassuming heroes who work hard to make sure that no school pupil is deprived of the joy of music.
‘I Love You, Briana Nicole Henry’
“The Last Repair Shop is about the heroes in our schools who often go unsung, un-thanked and unseen tonight you are sung, you are thanked, and you are seen,” Bowers said from the winners’ podium. “Thank you all so much for what you do. [Composer] John Williams inspired me to become a composer. He went to L A public schools. I went to L A public schools.
“This is Porché Brinkerd,” Bowers continued, introducing a young violin player who joined him on stage. “She’s 12 years old. She’s going to play violin in public school. L.A. is one of the last cities in America to give public school students free and freely repaired instruments. And we need to fix that because music education isn’t just about creating incredible musicians. It’s about creating incredible humans.”
Bowers gave thanks to Search Light, LA Times, Breakwater Studios, and “every human who poured their heart into this film.” The Oscar-winner also thanked “My Mom and Dad, and also to my wife Brianna and our daughter Coda. I love you. I love you. I love you.” Henry is credited as an executive producer of The Last Repair Shop.
This isn’t the only soap opera connection at this year’s Oscars. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song). The sister and brother music duo are the children of Maggie Baird (ex-Taylor Baldwin, As the World Turns) and Patrick O’Connell (ex-Neil Everest, Guiding Light). Soap Hub congratulates all the nominees and winners at the 2024 Oscars.
