Blue Bloods actor Donnie Wahlberg doesn’t expect to see the fan-favorite police procedural wrap up its run on CBS next season.
The long-running television series was recently renewed for Season 14 in March 2023 after the cast and producers agreed to take a 25 percent pay cut. While this has led some fans to believe the end is near for Blue Bloods, Wahlberg isn’t ready to hand in his badge just yet. “I’m an optimist,” the actor, who plays detective Daniel Reagan in Blue Bloods, admitted in an interview with Us Weekly. “I try to take every episode as it comes. I really do. I think it’s part of why I’ve enjoyed myself on the show for 13 years.”
Wahlberg continued, “One of the things I’ve done is I try to just stay very present in each episode and take each script that comes my way and say, ‘OK, what’s gonna happen now? You know, what am I doing this week?’ And kind of find the journey in that particular episode and not get caught up in what’s gonna happen next year, what’s gonna happen in two years.” However, Wahlberg believes that there is enough gas left in Blue Bloods to keep them going for another few seasons. “Law and Order: SVU, I mean, Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay have been going for gosh, so many years and we hope to last as long as they have,” he added.
Blue Bloods Season 13 Finale Brings Back Two Former Cast Members
CBS still has three Season 13 episodes left to air before Blue Bloods goes on its annual summer hiatus. The Season 13 finale, which will premiere on May 12, is already highly anticipated among the show’s fans following confirmation that two former cast members will be making their long-awaited returns to the police procedural. Jennifer Esposito, who plays Jackie Curatola, and Sami Gayle, who plays Nicki Reagan-Boyle, will be making their first appearances on Blue Bloods since Seasons 3 and 11, respectively.
Created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, Blue Bloods premiered in September 2010 on CBS. The long-running police procedural drama series is set in New York City and follows members of the Reagan family, a Catholic, Irish-American family with a history of work in law enforcement. Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) leads the main cast as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, with Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes portraying his character’s adult children. Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray also star.
“Family Matters,” the eighteenth episode of Blue Bloods Season 13, airs on CBS on April 21.
