Blue Bloods Synopsis Spoils Season 13 Finale Details

A synopsis of CBS police procedural drama Blue Bloods’ Season 13 finale just surfaced online, and it’s loaded with spoilers.

The synopsis comes courtesy of TVLine. It confirms previous reports that Blue Bloods Season 13, Episode 21, “Forgive Us Our Trespasses,” will team up Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) with Danny’s former partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito) to hunt down a serial killer. The synopsis also notes that the serial killer’s copycat methods seemingly connect them to a case Danny and Jackie previously worked together. Other key plot points covered in the synopsis include tensions between main protagonist Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) over homelessness in New York City, and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) Eddie Janko-Reagan (Vanessa Ray) and Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) investigating a violent criminal.

News of Jackie Curatola’s return in Blue Bloods’ Season 13 first broke in April 2023. Esposito last portrayed the NYPD detective in the seventh episode of the show’s third season, “Nightmares,” in which Jackie takes a stress-related leave of absence. She’s not the only Blue Bloods veteran coming back for Season 13’s final episode, either. “Forgive Us Our Trespasses” will also include a guest appearance by Sami Gayle, who reprises the role of Nicky Reagan-Boyle. Gayle exited Blue Bloods after Season 10, although she portrayed Nicky again in Season 11, Episode 3, “Atonement.”

Is Blue Bloods Season 14 Happening?

Esposito and Gayle’s involvement in Blue Bloods Season 13 will likely stoke speculation regarding similar guest appearances by former cast members in Season 14. That said, the show’s fanbase shouldn’t hold its collective breath waiting for Amy Carlson’s comeback. Carlson’s character Linda Reagan was written out of Blue Bloods in Season 8, with her death in a helicopter accident taking place off-screen. Carlson has since opened up about Linda’s abrupt departure from Blue Bloods, admitting that she wishes it was handled differently. The star also said that she is yet to be approached about playing Linda in a flashback, despite her willingness to do so.

Blue Bloods creators Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess’ reluctance to revisit the show’s in-universe past comes at a time when its real-world future is in doubt. The police procedural drama was renewed for a 14th season in March 2023, but only after its cast and producers accepted a 25 percent pay cut. Fans are now concerned that additional seasons of Blue Bloods might not happen at all, although Donnie Wahlberg downplayed these concerns in a recent interview. “I’m an optimist,” he said. “I try to take every episode as it comes. I really do. I think it’s part of why I’ve enjoyed myself on the show for 13 years.”

Blue Bloods Season 13, Episode 21, “Forgive Us Our Trespasses,” premieres on CBS on May 19, 2023.
